This page is for any referees who were US Soccer referees in the past but have NOT been certified any time in the last 3 years (i.e. you last registered in 2022 or before last) and are looking to return to refereeing for the 2026 registration year. If you were certified more recent than that, please follow the steps for Recertification which is a simple/straightforward process.

ENYSRA offers an abridged Returning Referee certification process.

You must email questions+redo@enysreferee.org mentioning:

• your last certified year,
• your Date of Birth,
• your comfort with returning to refereeing on the field i.e. have you refereed since,
• your interest in attending a New Referee field session as a refresher for practical training and
• a photo of the uniforms and gear you have on hand to confirm it matches the current US Soccer uniform style (should show all jersey colors, shorts and socks that you have). If you are missing any gear, you should also mention it.

Upon acceptance into the Returning Referee course, you will:

1. be invited to (by email) and register in a special course on the Learning Center that covers the New Referee modules that you have to complete,
2. be licenced upon completion of a practical step (recertification clinic or field session),
3. reach out to receive your badge in the mail (if you do an online option)

If you prefer to receive the fresh new approach to training as the new referees including assistance with navigating the soccer landscape, you can take the New Referee course instead which includes a starter uniform kit package.
